In the premium SUV segment Hyundai Creta was considered the king of the Indian SUVs which dominated the whole segment but still Morris Garages and Kia motors have finally convinced us that there could be more strong competitors in the Indian market by launching them with several first in segment features which no buyer would ever expect even as a first product in India.Hector is a British car produced by Morris Garages which is a Chinese owned company whereas Seltos is a sister concern of the Hyundai Creta as Hyundai and Kia shares same platforms and engines with each other which we will also see in the Sonet and venue.
Which looks better in a buyer's eye??
Looks Just makes the car stunning but making badass looks like Kia is something we can see in the Seltos and on the other side Mg Hector is a British wine in a Chinese bottle as many of it's cues are taken from Audi Q7 like the floating indicators on front and rear which kia seltos does not get as Kia introduced heartbeat tail lamps for a stylish and badass experience.
Besides the tail lamps also MG Hector gets a bold looking front with Harrier style headlamps that get an option of HID and the Kia Seltos gets LED projector Headlamps joined with LED DRLs situated near Kia's tiger nose grille.
Rest considering the looks both looks stylish from side and get stylish alloys however MG Hector needs bigger 18 inches to make it bold and enhance ground clearance.
How is the Cabin from inside??
Both the cars in their respective segments have very premium cabins and the seats which are very comfortable in front however MG Hector will sound more spacious due to it's greater dimensions whereas Kia seltos is shorter due to which it would be easy to manouvere around the corners without any difficulties and can easily be parked easily in tight spaces more than MG Hector.The steering also feels premium to hold so there are no complaints about fit and finish inside the cabin.Sunroof is available in both cars but the MG Hector gets voice enabled panaromic sunroof with ismart features that sound convenient and does not make you feel claustrophobic as compared to seltos which get a smaller electric sunroof but beige interior is still offered to decrease the feeling of claustrophobia.MG Hector offers Electric seats for both driver and Co passenger whereas Seltos gets Ventilated front seats and an air purifier.Rest the connected car features and some other goodies remain the same.
How much can they revv??
Morris Garages has offered the Hector with hybrid and non hybrid petrol and a fiat sourced 2.0 litre diesel engine whereas as Kia seltos is offered with 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol,1.4 turbo petrol and 1.5 diesel.Petrol Hector generates 143 bhp horsepower and 250nm torque which is more than kia seltos turbo that generates 138 bhp power and 242nm torque and also 1.5 petrol that generates 115 bhp power and 144nm torque due to which Hector will feel powerfull .The diesel hector generates 170bhp power and 350nm torque that is more than kia seltos's 115bhp power and 250nm torque due to which diesel hector can accelerate better on hills.There are several kinds on automatics which Seltos offers according to needs and also 6 speed manual in all engines whereas Hector comes with 6MT and 6DCT.The Seltos's DCT is much better than 6DCT on Hector due to an extra gear for Highways and excellent fuel efficiency.Those looking for Hector should prefer manual version.
Price and assurance??
MG Hector starts from 12.73 lacs till 18 lacs ex showroom whereas Seltos starts nearly from 10 lacs till 19.49 lacs ex showroom due to which ones with tight budget should go for Seltos.The choices of 5 year warranty is also offered with MG Hector whereas Seltos gets 3 year standard warranty which can extended upto 5 years.Safety features does not makeup much difference in both cars but Hector feels solid build whereas Seltos has build quality similar to Creta.
Standard safety like Esc+TCS+HLA+2 airbags+ABS with EBD are standard in Hector whereas Seltos only gets 2 airbags and ABS with EBD as standard and only GT line offers better safety package.
Final Verdict
The ones looking for something safe to drive must go for Hector and those are looking for features and performance must prefer Kia seltos turbo that comes with GT line trim.
